Compare ball thrust bearing and roller thrust bearing,which is better?

Ball thrust bearing generally has better centripetal performance, but its bearing capacity is smaller than that of roller thrust bearing.
The ball thrust bearing adopts a design that can withstand thrust loads during high-speed operation, and is composed of a washer-shaped ring with a raceway groove where the ball rolls. Since the ring is a cushion shape, ball thrust bearing is divided into two types: flat base cushion type and spherical cushion type. In addition, this kind of bearing can bear axial load, but cannot bear radial load.

The roller thrust bearing is used to bear the combined axial and radial load with the main axial load, but the radial load shall not exceed 55% of the axial load. Compared with other roller thrust bearings, this type of bearing has a lower friction factor, a higher speed, and has a self-aligning performance. Cylindrical roller thrust bearing is suitable for low-speed occasions, tapered roller thrust bearing has a slightly higher speed than cylindrical roller thrust bearing.

Cylindrical roller thrust bearing is a separable bearing, which can only bear one-way axial load and slight impact, and can limit the axial displacement of the shaft (or housing) in one direction, so it can be used for one-way axial positioning. But its carrying capacity is far greater than the ball thrust bearing. When the roller is rolling, due to the different linear speeds at both ends of the roller, the roller will inevitably slide on the raceway of the ring. Therefore, the limit speed of this type of bearing is lower than that of the ball thrust bearing, and it is usually only suitable for low-speed operation.
